December PMB - just a little late

Hi there,

Sorry I'm late with my posting for the December Paper Mixing Bowl Challenge. I had the challenge finished in time for the December 1st reveal, but haven't completed my post of the challenge. So, without further ado....

And here's my layout:

The picture is of my niece and nephew from last Christmas - aren't they cute?

I used a mish mash of old Echo Park Christmas paper from my stash. The specific utensils I used were Stick a Bow on it, Stamping and Let it snow.

Thanks for stopping by. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season!

November 2012 Recipe - Thanksgiving Leftovers

I'm finally able to play along for the November challenge! It feels so good to be back - I've missed crafting!

Here's the recipe for this month

And here's my take:

I flipped the sketch and omitted the 2 extra pictures and the banner option. I wanted the focus to be on the picture. In case you missed my last post, we are expecting our first child in March of next year. So with the theme of this month's challenge being Thanksgiving and the journalling prompt being something you're thankful for, it was the perfect time to show off our baby's picture!

Since it's a pretty clean and simple layout, I'm not going to do any detailed shots, but I will say what the journalling says. "After a miscarriage in December 2012, we were excited to be expecting again, but nervous too. "After hearing your heartbeat we felt a little better, but this picture thrilled us! Thankful for you indeed."

I hope you're inspired to play along too!

Have a great day!

Back from vacation

Hi there, Sorry for being MIA! We're just back from 11 days in Madrid, Spain. We had a great time. We also visited Toledo and Segovia as both are quite close to Madrid. I hope to post some pictures soon - we have 1200 to go through so it may take a few days :) As well, I have some other that might explain why I haven't scrapbooked much lately and why my blog has been neglected. I'm going to be a mom! I'm 16 weeks pregnant, so just a bit into my second trimester. I'm hoping I've left the tireds behind from the first trimester so that I can get back to creating and updating my blog. ETA for baby is March 27, 2013. Hope to see you soon. Thanks for stopping by. Some house stuff

Hi there!

Since I haven't had any time to craft (my new house is keeping me busy but I like it!) - I thought I would post some before and after pics. So far, we've only completed 3 rooms - the living/dining rooms and our bedroom, but it's something, right? I really didn't realize how long it takes to wash, patch and sand walls to prep for painting. And then, how long it take to trim/cut in the walls! But it's been totally worth it :)

Here's the living room before:
And here it is after with new paint, new sconces, a couch and a kitty :)

Our dining room with our brand new table and 2 upholstered chairs and our new to us cabinet and wooden chairs. Oh and a kitty in the window :)

And our bedroom before:

Our bedroom after:
We now have side tables on either side of the bed - it was a little bare without them!

Oh, and here's my scraproom. It's finally all together! This is as you walk in the door to my room. It's at the front of our house, the "dormer" and it's about 7 x 10 - a perfect little nook. It has awesome windows and is bright and cheerful

This is to the right of the door.  I have an IKEA drafting table and an IKEA Billy bookshelf that I got off Kijiji for $50.

Another view.  Another great bookshelf find at Target on my most recent trip to the States.

And lastly, we have a new addition to our furry family.  We had a little black cat show up at our door and we decided to keep her.  Addison (Addie for short) has definitely made herself at home!

Thanks for peekin'!

Have a great day!

Recipe #6 - Paper Mixing Bowl - Margaritas!

Hi there!

Sorry for the late post - I was on vacation last week and didn't check blogs at all, including my own ;)

Here's the recipe:

 And here's my take:

I used Simple Stories "100 Days of Summer".  The utensils I used were torn paper, sanding (on the title), postage stamp and something transparent (there's a transparency over the pic of me drinking a daiquiri :))  I popped up all of the little words, the postage stamp and my journalling

Pretty clean and simple, but I'm ok with how it turned out.  I finished in probably an hour, the day before it was due.  My new house is keeping me busy.

Thanks for peeking, hope to be back soon :)

I've since added glass knobs for the handles, but I love it this way too.

Thanks for popping by.

Paper Mixing Bowl - Recipe#5

Hi there!

This month it's....strawberry shortcake!  Yum!

Here's the recipe:

And here's my take:

I used Simple Stories paper (Yearography I think) and I managed to use almost all of the utensils (except ribbon/seam binding).  It was another journal fail for me, but mostly because I ran out of time!  Things have been pretty busy since we moved into our house 2 weeks ago.

Thanks for peeking.  Once my new craft room is all set up, I hope to be back creating and blogging regularly.

Have a great day!

Paper Mixing Bowl #4 - Shish Kebab

Hi there,

I'm back with this month's reveal for the Paper Mixing Bowl.  I'm gearing up to move in 14 sleeps so things are everywhere and my layout was rushed.  I foresee some "tweaking" in my future - this layout is extra special to me and I want it to be awesome!

Here is the recipe:

I didn't do a layout about a special man in my life, though I could have used my awesome husband.  Instead I chose my brother Bruce's girlfriend Nicole.  The inspirational word STRONG spoke to me which is why I chose Nicole.  Early last year she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She had taken a leave from work to spend 6 months in Calgary with Bruce since both his job and lacrosse were based there.  She had only been there about 3 months when she got the terrible diagnosis - Breast Cancer.  She flew back to Ontario and began treatment that included chemotherapy, a mastectomy and radiation.  Through all of this she maintained a positive, determined attitude to beat this awful disease.  Do you see why STRONG came to mind?

I left things pretty bare as I wanted the focus to be on the words and the picture of Nicole with her great smile.  I am not 100% satisfied with how the flower looks on it's own so I think I will add a few more around the frame of the photo.  I used all of the utensils (with the exception of the brackets and tape).  Twine - around the frame; Metal - the breast cancer pin (it was silver and I painted it pink); Brads -attached the pin; Paper with Script - as the base mat for the picture.  I also used pink paint the I splashed on the background paper.

A close up of the hidden journalling:

So Nicole, this one's for you.  You are one AMAZING lady!

Have a great day!

Counting Down

The days until we get our house that is!  Only 25 more sleeps!  I *may* be a tad excited, but it's our first house so I think I am allowed :)

Since we are moving from a one bedroom apartment to a 3 bedroom house, we will need to buy some furniture.  Our first purchase was a new to us couch.  I found the couch we had been looking for at Structube on kijiji for half the price.  We went and checked it out, saw that it was in great shape and brought it home the next day.  Here's a picture of our kitties checking it out.  **Sorry for the funky spacing on this post, I'm not sure what blogger doesn't like about my pictures.**

Jason & I have spent the last few weekends looking for furniture for our house and we had some luck. We were out at garage sales last week and picked up this old trunk for $20. We're not sure what we're going to do with it yet (maybe a coffee table?) but we loved it and thought, why not?

My Aunt Lynn found a cabinet at a garage sale, texted us this picture and asked if we liked the cabinet (which we did) so she picked that up for us for $50.

We purchased a dresser for $75 from a local antique store.  It's from the late 1800's though we're pretty sure it's had some "tweaks" along the way.  We liked the shape of it though and it was regularly $450 and we got it for $75 which we thought was a great deal.

We also went to la-z-y boy and cornerstone this weekend to look for chairs and a dining table.  We had luck on the dining table, finding a table that we had looked at in February was still in the store!  I didn't get a great picture of it, but it is a reclaimed wood top with a metal base.  I'm not crazy about the blond wood, but I can stain it so I am not too worried.
We were going to get a table custom made, but by purchasing this table from cornerstone, we saved ourselves about $1000-$1500.  It's a big table too, just under 8 feet long!  Right now we only have 4 wooden side chairs (which I got off kijiji for $100) and 2 upholstered end chairs from Pier 1 but I tested the look out at the store and it actually looks pretty good (I was worried it would look too bare).
Here are the Pier 1 chairs that will be at the ends of the table.
We could have bought these in K-W but we purchased them in Rochester (we were there anyways to watch Bruce play lacrosse), and by doing so, saved ourselves $80 per chair.
Since we've been pretty good with mixing kijiji deals with in store sales, we can also get 2 occasional chairs for the living room.  Here is the allegra chair in the pattern we like:
We are planning to get either 2 of this chair or the Riley reclining chair.  I didn't take a picture of the Riley chair, but here is the one from the la-z-y boy website.  We will either do the same pattern as the allegra chair or a neutral that does with the couch and the allegra chair.
Whew!  That's a lot of pictures!  It's been fun looking for stuff for our house!
Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful week!

Paper Mixing Bowl - Recipe #3 - Mom's Apple Pie

Hi there! I'm back with my Paper Mixing Bowl reveal.

Here is our recipe:

And here is my layout.  I flipped the sketch and used paper and words instead of 3 little pictures.
The picture of my gramma, mom, sister and niece is pop dotted on top of a woven pattern.

A close up shot of the weaving:
I used kraft for the background and then used wood and burlap as well to meet the kraft main ingredient. The patterned paper is from Stampin' Up. I created the frame with washi tape and added the words in the middle of the frame with "Family" meeting the journalling prompt criteria.

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to play along!

Have a great day!

Two Challenges in One

I'm finally back with a layout I created for an online crop at Two Scrapbook Friends using a Let's Get Sketchy sketch!

I love this picture of my nephew Caleb and I love how this layout turned out.  I used some Mister Huey mist to add the white paint splatters to the background paper.  I LOVE this background paper from MME.  the rest of the papers are from Echo Park "Note to Self".

Thanks for stopping by, hope to see you again soon!

Let's Get Sketchy - Challenge 6

I've been following this site since it began but haven't had time to play along.  I've FINALLY had the time to play along with Let's Get Sketchy .    I loved the sketch this week - great job Laura!

Here's my take:

I stuck pretty close to the sketch which is how I typically roll ;)  I did somehow "lose" the large circle!?!?
Here's the sketch:

I'm off to Halifax for the weekend.

See you next week!

Thanks for peeking,

Kelly :)

Paper Mixing Bowl Challenge #2

Hi! I'm back with our second challenge for the Paper Mixing Bowl. This challenge this month is Hot Cross Buns so the colour white should feature prominently. Here is the challenge:
And here is what I came up with:
I used a white background and added touches of black and red (I LOVE this colour combo!). I scrapped another wedding photo as we were to scrap a new beginning or adventure. My journalling is on a circle which meets another requirement - journalling on a shape. I used all of the elements - chipboard (the heart, covered in paper and the little hearts coloured with my copics), stitching (faux stitching on the cirle journal and on the red border punch at the bottom), corner/edge punch (on the black and white mat and on the red punched piece), black and white doilies, stickles (on the large chipboard heart)and oval elements (kiss is on a double oval). It's surprising all of the elements I used on a layout with a fair amount of white space. We hope you will be inspired to play along with us this month. Watch for another guest designer soon too! Thanks for peekin'! Kelly :) RECIPE: Paper - white background paper from my stash, Bazill "Red High Heels" and GCD Studios "Simpicite" (black and white damask; Bo Bunny "Sweetie Pie Sigh" covering chipboard heart Embellies - white crochet doily - Kaisercraft; Prima black flower;Kaisercraft blossoms red resin flower; Recollections floral embellishments white resin flower; "Kiss" oval sticker from my stash; chipboard hearts from my stash Tools - Martha Stewart "Swirly lace" punch around the page; Dienamics doily diecut; We R Memory Keepers Sew Stamper; Stardust stickles, Copics R35 "Lipstick Red" and Black Soot distress ink.

Birthday card and some GREAT news

First up, the card.  I made this for my brother's girlfriend Nicole as it was her birthday this past Sunday.

A now for the GREAT news....we just found out today that Nicole is cancer free!  She has been battling breast cancer and after chemo, a masectomy and radiation she is now cancer free!  It's the best news I've heard in a while and I am sure the best belated birthday gift for her.  Throughout this past year she has remained positive, determined and strong - and it finally has paid off.  I admire this woman more than she knows.

Cheers to you Nicole!  xoxo

Paper Mixing Bowl - Our First Challenge

I am here for my first reveal for the Paper Mixing Bowl!

Here is a copy of our recipe for Devil's Chocolate Cake:

And here is my take on the recipe:

I used the main ingredient, dark chocolate for 2 of my flowers and for the mat behind the striped paper.  Both of the patterned papers I used also had dark chocolate in the paper.  The utensils I used were layers, distressing, mist and square elements (I used 4 instead of the required 2).  Lastly for the Directions (journalling) I journalled about the anticipation leading up to my wedding day in Mijas, Spain and referred to the 450 emails I had sent to our wedding planner because we planned our wedding over email and had never been to this region of Spain!

I had a great time with this challenge and I hope you feel inspired to play along too.  Please visit the Paper Mixing Bowl for the recipe for the challenge and to post your creations.

Happy Crafting!

Kelly :)

Products used:

American Crafts (kraft background paper), Stampin' Up "Expresso" (brown mat and for looped border punched strip), Bazill "Red High Heels" (red mat for photos) and Bo Bunny "Timeless" for all patterned paper.  The small alpha letters are chocolate as well.

Prima for the beige and red flower/trim; a homemade rik rak flower and a miscellaneous brown flower I found on clearance at Michaels; Pearl swirls are from Kaisercraft; My Mind's Eye for the brad in the rik rak flower and for the resin flower centre is Kaisercraft as well.   The letters for the title are from My Mind's Eye "Lush" and the small alpha letters are from Kaisercraft.

Walnut Stain Distress Ink  was used on the edges all papers.  The journalling card was also inked by Cherry Cobbler from Stampin' Up.

Birthday Card - Little Red Wagon Challenge

Hi there,

I made a 30th birthday card for my co-worker and friend Courtney.  It turns out that it works for the Little Red Wagon LRW challenge this week which is to use an arrow on your project.  While this arrow  isn't cupid's arrow, I think it should still work.

All of the papers are "Summers End" from Fancy Pants Designs.  I embossed the orange background paper using the cuttlebug with the swiss dots folder.  I cut the scalloped square using a spellbinders die.  The birthday stamp , brad and arrow are all Stampin' Up and stamped using walnut stain distress ink.

Thanks for popping by!

Where oh where have I been?

Sorry I've been absent lately. One of my New Year's resolutions was to blog regularly. I was pretty good at it at the beginning of January, but haven't been here much in the last 2 weeks. But I have a pretty good excuse - we have just purchased our fist home!!! We are beyond excited! The house is one street over from where we currently live and is pretty much exactly what we were looking for. It's an older 2 storey home, built in 1915. It has 3 bedrooms, a fireplace, an unfinished attic and a partially finished basement. We are in love!

The house was not up on MLS and didn't have a For Sale sign up but I had heard that the owners were thinking of selling when I was at my hairstylists in November. I saw Amy, my hairstylist, again in December and she suggested we knock on their door or drop them a note to see if they were in fact planning to sell their house. It took me until January 18th to write the letter but I did and dropped it off. The next night we got a phone call - they had received our letter and wondered if we wanted to see the house. Of course, we did! We went to see the house on January 21 and stepped in the front door and fell in love!!! We went back the following Wednesday with our realtor and put an offer in. The seller's then countered our offer on Thursday and on Saturday we accepted their counter offer! This week has been arranging financing, inspections and insurance and obtaining a lawyer. We are on the home stretch now, just a few more things to finalized before the house is officially ours!!

Here it is:

I hope to get some crafting in on the weekend, but the Superbowl may get in the way -GO Giants GO!!

Sketchy Thursday - The Magic of Christmas

Happy Hump Day!

I'm back with a sketch from Sketchy Thursdays. It's their last one which makes me uber sad because I've loved their sketches. They will be missed for sure - thank you so much ST ladies!

Here is my take:

I used the Echo Park "Merry Christmas" line. The only thing that is not from that line is the background kraft paper and the stickles on the ornament banner.

I would like to add more to this layout, but this week is crazy and I don't have much time but I really wanted to play along so it is what it is.

Have a great week, I'll be back soon!

Once Upon a Sketch - January 15th -

I finally found some time in my scraproom this week and decided to play along with Once Upon a Sketch. I love this sketch!!!! **Unfortunately, I missed the deadline to submit it :(**

Here's the sketch:

And here's my layout:

I scrapped another wedding picture - I am determined to get my album finished this year. The journalling theme was New year's Eve. We were to journal about your feelings around this time of year, or about your most memorable New Year's Eve. Where were you? Who were you with? What did you do? Why is this one memorable? You didn't have to use a NYE photo though. My journalling was about this year and it reads... It's our second married New Years Eve. 2012 brings some big changes - buying a house & starting a family (hopefully!. Exciting things are in store for us!.

Recipe to follow (I have to do some digging to find all the products I used!)

Thanks for stopping by!

Top 10 projects from 2011

I have noticed quite a few of my blogger friends posting their top 10's of 2011 and I think it's a great idea so I am going to do the same! I actually thought I only had enough "stuff" for a top 5 but was pleasantly surprised that I had enough for 10!And I love that the project topics range from travel to family to wedding to everyday life. This is why we scrapbook!

So here they are:

Thanks for peeking, have a great day!
